Health Outreach and Education: For years, VACA has provided health outreach and education workshops on topics of specific importance to our community. Information is distributed on breast and cervical cancer, liver cancer, hepatitis B, tobacco prevention, the importance of vaccinations, and other issues important to Vietnamese through our newsletter, website, radio and local cable access channels, and educational mailings and flyer distribution. Furthermore, we host workshops on specific topics throughout the year at both our offices in Fields Corner and at area community centers and health clinics. Workshops are conducted in Vietnamese with careful thought and consideration given to the cultural implications of certain topics.

Health and Social Service Counseling: Community Outreach Workers are made available Monday through Friday, 9am to 5pm to meet with individuals and families. Counseling services include guidance and assistance with a host of challenges facing our community members, including: MassHealth applications and eligibility requirements, obtaining SSI/SSDI and cash assistance, referrals to doctors and community health clinics, obtaining child care, providing information regarding breast and cervical cancer screenings, and translation and interpretations of documentation. Frequently, Outreach Workers will escort community members to important appointments or doctor check-ups to provide interpretation services and support.

Elderly Services: VACA collaborates with several area senior service centers to improve the quality of our seniors’ lives in the United States. Some of our partner agencies include Kit Clark Senior Services, Elder Services of the Merrimack Valley, the City of Worcester, and Mystic Valley Elder Services. We provide outreach and education at these locations. In the case of Mystic Valley Elder Services, we provide an Elderly Outreach Worker at their center once a week to assist Vietnamese elders in the TriCity area.
