VACA Volunteer Descriptions (updated 7/28/08) 

VACA is looking for volunteers to fill the positions listed below.  Please consider donating a couple of hours a week.  Even if you can’t commit to the whole shift, a couple of hours would still be helpful.  Training will be provided on site.  We’ll be counting on volunteers throughout the summer and into the fall as well.  Contact Vy Vu, the Volunteer Coordinator, at VACA.Volunteer@gmail.com with your expressed interest, resume if available, and a phone number where she can reach you.  Thank you!

Receptionists

Basic Duties

  • Answer phone, greet clients
  • Make referrals to direct service providers
  • Manage database, makes copies and other administrative tasks
 

Hours: M – F, 9-5pm

Even if you can only come in for a day or for a couple of hours, it would be a great help. 

Requirements: Commitment to the volunteer position.  Bilingual in Vietnamese a must.  High school and college students are welcomed.

ESOL Counselors

Basic Duties

  • Register students, maintain waiting lists
  • Provide administrative assistance to teachers
  • Collect attendance
  • Follow up with students, call to remind them to attend classes
 

Hours: T & Th – 6-9pm [Weekday Shift]

      Sat & Sun – 9-12am [Weekend Shift] 

Requirements: Commitment.  Bilingual in Vietnamese a must. College students or older preferred.

ESOL Teachers (various levels: 1, 1A, 3)

Basic Duties

  • Provide instructions to adult learners in classroom setting
  • Run lesson plans
  • Test students
 

Hours: T & Th – 6-9pm [Weekday Shift]

      Sat & Sun – 9-12am [Weekend Shift] 

Requirements: Commitment. College students or older preferred.  Teaching experience preferred.  Does not need to be Vietnamese-speaker.

Social Services Coordinator I (General)

Basic Duties

  • Read mail for clients
  • Make calls on behalf of clients
  • Fill out forms for clients (these can be housing forms, utility bills, fuel assistance forms, SSI forms etc.)
 

Hours: T & Th, 9 – 5pm 

Requirements: Commitment.  Bilingual in Vietnamese a must.  Experience working or interacting with older Vietnamese clients a plus.

Social Services Coordinator II (Citizenship)

Basic Duties

  • Read mail for clients
  • Make calls on behalf of clients
  • Fill out forms for clients (specifically citizenship forms)
 

Hours: T & Th, 9-5pm

Requirements: Commitment.  Bilingual in Vietnamese a must.  Experience working or interacting with older Vietnamese clients a plus.

Social Services Coordinator III (Health)

Basic Duties

  • Read mail for clients
  • Make calls on behalf of clients
  • Fill out forms for clients (specifically MassHealth and Commonwealth forms)
 

Hours: T & Th, 9-5pm 

Requirements: Commitment.  Bilingual in Vietnamese a must.  Experience working or interacting with older Vietnamese clients a plus.

Youth Counselors

Basic Duties

  • For Summer:
    • Provide work assistance to youth participants
    • Facilitate group projects
    • Oversee daily activities
    • Give youth job trainings
    • Create other activities for youth as appropriate
      • Hours: M, W, F, 10-3:30pm
 
      • For School Year:
    • Provide tutoring to youth
    • Supervise peer leaders
    • Create action plan for youth programming
    • Provide assistance with college applications
    • Counsel youth
    • Write reports for funders
    • Help facilitate Girls’ Program
      • Hours: M-F, 3-5pm
 

Requirements: College students or older preferred.  Bilingual in Vietnamese is helpful.  Experience working with young people helpful.

Accounting Coordinators

Basic Duties

  • Help sort through financial documents
  • Input data into database
  • Help to organize data collection
 

Hours:  Flexible depending on your schedule. 

Requirements: Knowledge of nonprofit accounting practices or software such as QuickBooks is really helpful.

1 PR/External Communications Coordinator

Basic Duties

  • Assist Interim E.D. with marketing and PR efforts
  • Other tasks as they come up
  • Be able to work over phone and email
 

Hours: Flexible depending on your schedule 

Requirements: Commitment and enthusiasm.  Drive to get things done.
